School cuts £9000 off electricity bill with Powerwise

Taxpayers rejoice

Why didn’t we do this before?” said Mrs Duncan, head teacher of Sunbury Manor School.

Lowering carbon emissions can sometimes seem like a futile gesture. You don't actually see the effects on the environment. But Sunbury Manor school has found at least nine thousand reasons for managing its energy more efficiently. It has slashed its electricity bill by just under ten thousand pounds.
Good news for the taxpayer.

The school slashed its power consumption using Powerwise which provides a centralised solution to managing PC power. It automatically profiles PCs and minimses their use of electricity when the computer is not being used. This simple gadget has saved the school nearly ten thousand pounds a year.
Sunbury Manor says 70 per cent of its annual electricity costs are associated with PCs. Technology plays a big part in day to day life at the school. With over 1000 students, and 130 teaching and support staff, it runs over 450 PCs, The school’s power bills are nearly £20,000 a year.
In contrast, Sunbury Manor has developed a strong eco culture in recent years, and in June 2008 hosted an Eco rally for local Secondary and Primary Schools, attended by the Mayor of Spelthorne, the BBC, Greenpeace and The Surrey Wildlife Trust.
“By using Powerwise we can reduce our carbon footprint, which we predict will be reduced by around 50,000Kgs of CO2,” commented Sam Ralph IT Administrator.
“We’re impressed that something so user friendly can save our energy costs and contribute to the eco culture that is so strong in school. Why didn’t we do this before?” said Mrs Duncan, head teacher of Sunbury Manor School.
Why indeed.
