Camwood Impressive App Management with three years extension

The new contract extends Camwood’s previous one year offering of software as a service.
 
BAE is planning to virtualise its applications in a drive for efficient IT services. Instead  of hosting applications on each of its 37,500 individual PCs BAE will store apps centrally and deliver as many as  possible to the PCs using Microsoft’s App-V technology.
 
Allan Leggetter, BAE’s director of enterprise IT services, said a software as a service transformation will make the business more agile.
 
“Camwood, has been pivotal in this initiative and is crucial to its success,” said Leggetter.
 
The contract means Camwood will design, implement and operate the service according, providing a high level of governance and controls conforming to ITIL standards.
 
Camwood will assess commercial off-the-shelf applications (COTS) and applications developed in-house by BAE Systems using Microsoft virtualisation platform App-V. Any applications deemed unsuitable for virtualisation will either be developed for suitability, or deployed using MSI technology.
 
Certification is just one part of the service. Using its Application Lifecycle Manager Camwood will manage applications from ‘cradle to grave’, track them through the key stages of the engineering lifecycle. It will also provide real-time status information to BAE Systems and partners responsible for other parts of the virtualisation project.
 
Camwood CEO Frank Foxall, said the award is an endorsement of the company’s previous work and its expertise in application services. “BAE Systems explicitly sought Camwood as its preferred supplier for application certification based on our proven expertise in the field.”
