Warid and Huawei build Pakistan'sfirst solar power base station
Giant step for the planet
Mobile sunny delight
If only there were more companies doing this sort of thing
Telecoms service provider Huawei and Pakistani telco Warid Telecom, have the country's first solar powered base station.
As well as saving the planet, it means the operator can reach remote areas of the country where there is limited access to the electricity grid.
As Pakistan’s mobile phone subscriptions grow, operators are expanding network coverage especially in small and medium sized cities and suburban areas. As you would expect, but they’re also going into the countryside, which in Pakistan means in mountainous areas with poor transport links. Few remote areas have access to the electricity grid, so operators traditionally used diesel generators to power their network sites.
Why did Warid Telecom choose Huawei’s Solar Powered BTS? The non-hybrid site is wholly powered by solar energy, so there’s no carbon dioxide emissions or noise pollution. Another environmental benefit, they argue, is it cuts the pressure on Pakistan’s overall energy supply.
Huawei has a range of renewable energy systems for mobile comms sites, such as solar solutions, solar & wind hybrid solutions, solar & diesel hybrid solutions. These all cut the cost of cost of ownership in the product life circle, optimizing energy efficiency, and bringing obvious benefits to operators.
